Overview

Quillarumiyoq, a Quechua term meaning «the stone of the moon,» is a Huaca, or sacred stone, representing an Apu, a revered mountain, in Inca culture. One of the prominent deities in Inca mythology was Mama Quilla, the Moon, who was both the sister and wife of Inti, the Sun god. Mama Quilla represented the feminine aspect of the universe, and the Incas constructed lunar calendars and sacred sites dedicated to her, such as Quillarumiyoq. This enigmatic location is ideal for meditation and making offerings to Pachamama, Mother Earth.

This ancient site boasts meticulous designs and also features areas designated for agricultural purposes. It rests at one end of the Anta pampa, along the path to Chinchaysuyo, situated at an elevation of 11,975 ft above sea level. Quillarumiyoq carries an air of mystery, inviting visitors to contemplate its spiritual significance and marvel at its architectural precision.

As you explore this sacred site, you can immerse yourself in the ancient Inca culture and connect with the reverence they held for the moon and the natural world. The remarkable craftsmanship and agricultural elements within the site offer a glimpse into the ingenuity and sacred practices of the Inca civilization.

Quillarumiyoq stands as a testament to the profound spirituality and deep connection the Incas had with the celestial bodies and the land they inhabited. It is a place where history, culture, and nature converge, providing a unique opportunity to delve into the rich heritage of the Incas and reflect on the beauty and power of the moon and its significance in their cosmology.
