Overview
Ñaupa Iglesia, which translates to «the old temple where gold shines,» is an exceptional Inca religious construction that stands out for its unique design, intricate details, and captivating location. This sacred site offers a glimpse into the Inca’s architectural prowess and their deep spiritual beliefs.
Situated after ascending the towering agricultural platforms, Ñaupa Iglesia is nestled on a trapezoidal mountain, showcasing the main temple and a series of rocky windows. With a trapezoidal shape spanning an area of 118 feet, this temple exhibits the Inca’s meticulous attention to architectural precision.
Within the main temple, a basaltic rock carving catches the eye, adorned with ornamental motifs such as the stepped sign with a double jamb. Additionally, the chacana, a significant Inca symbol representing their worldview, can be found. These intricate carvings reflect the Inca’s profound artistic craftsmanship and their spiritual connection to the natural world.
Ñaupa Iglesia stands as a testament to the Inca’s reverence for the divine and their dedication to constructing sacred spaces that harmonized with the surrounding landscape.
